报告人简介:
2001年本科毕业于武汉大学电信学院测控技术与仪器专业,2004年清华大学精仪系获光学工程硕士学位,2008年香港理工大学电机系获博士学位。自2008年在英国巴斯大学物理系光子&光子材料中心从事博士后研究。主要研究方向有:光子晶体光纤特性,微结构光纤耦合,微纳米光纤,二氧化硅纳米材料气凝胶及其应用研究。
 
报告摘要:
Photonic crystal fibers (PCFs), which are also named micro-structured optical fibers or holey fibers, represent one of the most active research areas today in the field of fiber optics. PCFs have wavelength-scale microscopic structure that runs along the entire fiber length. This structure enables light to be confined in the 2D photonic crystal by novel mechanisms.
 In this talk, I will introduce different light guiding mechanisms of PCFs and their main applications, and their challenges in practical applications: low-loss splicing between different PCFs and conventional fibers. Another interesting nano-structured silica material is aerogel, also named “soid air” for its extremely low refractive-index, less than 1.05. I will also introduce micro/nano tapered fibers embedded in aerogel for different applications.
